Steaming ahead To preserve Our Rail Heritage

Temporary closure of Merriwa Railway Museum and suspension of volunteer activities

Merriwa Railway Society Inc has been working within the guidelines and advice provided by the State and Federal governments in managing risks associated with the current novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

Effective from Thursday 26 March 2020, the Merriwa Railway Museum will be temporarily closed until further notice.

We will continue to monitor the situation and take guidance from the relevant authorities and will respond promptly to any new information or advice.

Welcome to the Merriwa Railway Society Website.

The objective of the Society is to restore the Station and Yard at Merriwa, in the New South Wales Upper Hunter Region plus develop and operate a Museum showcasing the history of the railways and how they were instrumental in the development of the Merriwa district.

It is planned to showcase a variety of items from photos and small objects, through to Locomotives and Rolling Stock. Over the Long Term the objective is to run a tourist service along a section of the line to complement the Museum Displays.
